Paddy McGuire - Deputy Director for Election Official Assistance

Paddy McGuire is the Deputy Director for Election Official Assistance at the Federal Voting Assistance Program in the Department of Defense.  FVAP provides voting assistance to uniformed service members and their families and citizens living outside the U.S.  McGuire is responsible for working with all stateside election officials.  Prior to joining FVAP earlier this year, McGuire served for seven years as Oregon Deputy Secretary of State, overseeing the State Elections, Audits and Corporations divisions.  He previously served as Senior Policy Advisor at the Bonneville Power Administration and Director of Intergovernmental Affairs for the U.S. Department of the Interior. 

Paddy is a lead writer of Direct Democracy: The International IDEA Handbook published in 2008 by the International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Administration, an NGO based in Stockholm, Sweden.

McGuire is a graduate of Hamilton College in Clinton, New York, where he earned a degree in History and Government with a minor in Economics.  In 2004, he earned a certificate from the Senior Executives in State and Local Government program at the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard.  He is married and has a daughter who recently graduated from college.  He is an avid bicyclist.
